Animals

Cheadle Animal Welfare Society (Registered Charity No.1039350): This is an entirely voluntary organisation run by a small group of dedicated ladies. It was set up in 1968 to take responsibility for stray, abandoned and unwanted dogs and cats within Cheadle and surrounding districts

The Society ensures that each animal coming into its care receives any necessary veterinary treatment. No healthy animal is destroyed. The animals are boarded at private boarding kennels and catteries until suitable homes can be found.

Foster homes are always needed for kittens, sick and elderly animals. Food and veterinary care are provided for these animals. Lost animals within the Cheadle area can be put on our lost animals register by ringing 01889 564045

Donations of money, food and good quality bric-a-brac are always welcome. The Society has Direct Debit forms available for regular donations and UK taxpayers can complete a Gift Aid form. Please contact The Secretary for details of how you can help on 01335 390369.

There are two Veterinary Practices in the town; Lime Trees Practise on Tean Road (01538 752117) and Rogers Brooks in Watts Place (01538 753127). The nearest PDSA is at Bread Street in Stoke on Trent (01782 413415). Other topics of interest may be found in the entry on Wildlife.

Gardening

Cheadle Gardening Association used to exist for anyone interested in gardening, and developed out of the Allotments Association. Unfortunately with the withdrawal of the allotments site by the landowner, the Association has disbanded. Gordon Shaw is now the chief driver of change in trying to gain support to re-start an allotments site. Jim Read has lately sought to breath some life back into efforts to re-start a gardening and allotments group. Have a look at his website and please contribute any information you may have. An allotment site would be a benefit to the town providing healthy exercise, good food and good friends for those interested.
