Support Matters

In compiling this listing, some individuals or organisations offering assistance to others, expressed the desire not to be identified. It rather defeats the object of attempting to help people if they cannot establish contact as quickly and simply as possible. Further many of the most vulnerable will not contact an anonymous "group" but would feel comfortable if they knew who to ask for.

Some expressed the view that being identified would be "...against the Data Protection Act..". This would only be so if they expressly did not wish to be identified. The recording of basic contact details such as name and number, is not against the Data Protection Act. Anyone interested is referred to the website www.dataprotection.gov.uk dedicated to the subject.

Cheadle Volunteer Bureau

A splendid initiative is the Cheadle Volunteer Bureau which aims to offer those interested in undertaking volunteer work, a means to find the best way of matching what they can offer with people or places that can benefit.

Leek CVS

Throughout the country there are a variety of "Councils for Voluntary Service". These CVS's are government initiated umbrella organisations which aim to encourage volunteering, and try to make voluntary and statutory organisations work together without overlap. The local CVS for Cheadle is based at Leek, though Cheadle does have its own representative.

At its most basic level, Leek CVS is about sharing resources to which voluntary groups can have direct access so that they can be as effective as possible. Leek CVS provide meeting rooms, equipment, office services, and can produce posters, leaflets etc. at very low rates.

The Leek CVS will help groups with funding applications, can assist with information on local groups, and all aspects of charity work such as;
